Take a dive into the amazing world of Astronomy! The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) is offering an exciting array of astronomy programs this month at the Los Alamos Nature Center.
Take a look at this month’s schedule below:
- At 7 p.m. this Friday, Feb. 9, gather in the planetarium for an exploration of the Night Sky in February. Learn which planets, constellations, star clusters, and more are visible as Steve Becker leads a virtual tour of the current night sky. Admission: $8/adult, $6/student;
- At 2 p.m.
All County Facilities Closing At 2 P.M. Today
Los Alamos County Manager Steven Lynne has ordered the closure of all open County government facilities at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 10 due to hazardous weather conditions.
Officials advise this includes both libraries, the Aquatic Center, Ice Rink, Los Alamos Eco Station and White Rock Convenience Center.
County Traffic and Street crews will continue to clear the major roads and streets according to the FY24 Snow and Ice Control Plan. The community can help facilitate snow removal by parking vehicles off the street.

Raccoons are a common sight in Los Alamos but this doesn’t mean they are safe or friendly to humans. In fact, raccoons can be quite dangerous if they get too close.
Follow these tips for safety around raccoons:
- Keep Raccoons From Coming Too Close – If a raccoon approaches too closely, make yourself appear larger: stand up, shout and wave your arms. If it continues to approach, throw or spray water, or even stones, if needed;
