Daily Postcard: Sharp-Shinned Hawk Lingers Near Feeder
Daily Postcard: Looking out the window of a home Monday a Sharp-shinned Hawk is spotted lingering near a bird feeder hanging in a tree in Pajarito Acres. Sharp-shinned Hawks are small, long-tailed hawks with short, rounded wings. They have small heads that in flight do not always project beyond the ‘wrists’ of the wings. The tail tends to be square-tipped and may show a notch at the tip. Females are considerably larger than males. Source: allaboutbirds.org. Photo by Nancy Bartlit Read More

Independent Study Finds New Mexico Oil And Gas Emissions Are Half Those Of Texas Per Unit
The nationally leading oil and gas regulations of the Lujan Grisham administration are having significant and positive impacts on greenhouse gas emissions from the industry.
A study released last week by the environmental measurement and analysis firm Kayrros found that New Mexico’s oil and gas operations emit half those of Texas, per unit. Texas’ industry is far less regulated and often results in emissions traveling across state lines into New Mexico.
Noting that both Texas and New Mexico have experienced exponential growth in oil and gas production over the time period its Read More

Weekly Fishing Report: Nov. 20, 2023
By GEORGE MORSE
Sports And Outdoors
Los Alamos Daily Post
For most of this fall season, the water released from below Abiquiu Dam has been much higher than normal. Consequently, streamflow in the Chama River below the Dam has been much higher than normal.
Water released from Abiquiu was recently cut back. Streamflows have likewise dropped dramatically in the Chama River. This should improve the fishing conditions. This section of River is well-stocked. It should provide good fishing as long as the streamflow remains low. There are some big , wild brown trout here.

Gessing: MLG’s 7 Member Environmental Improvement Board Votes To Limit Gas Cars In Mere 3-2 Vote
By PAUL GESSING
President
Rio Grande Foundation
At the Rio Grande Foundation we have written extensively about Gov. Lujan Grisham’s disdain for “democracy,” let alone a representative republic, but last night’s (Nov. 16) vote by her un-elected EIB (Environmental Improvement Board) takes the cake.
Unsurprisingly, despite overwhelming numbers of New Mexicans in opposition, the SEVEN-member Board voted on a mere 3-2 basis (in support) to mandate a drastic increase in the number of EV’s sold in New Mexico. You can find the list of all 7 members here while the vote was as follows: Bitzer and Read More
