Construction Delays Extend Bandelier Tsankawi Unit Closure
BANDELIER News:
Bandelier National Monument will extend the closure of its Tsankawi Unit past the previously expected mid-October 2023 timeframe. This is due to construction delays at Tsankawi and the New Mexico N.M. 4 intersection at the entrance to the park unit.
The Tsankawi Unit is expected to reopen after construction is completed prior to the 2024 summer season.

Kirtland Air Force Base To Conduct Prescribed Burn Today
Beginning Oct. 28, Kirtland Air Force Base officials expect to begin prescribed burns in wildfire-prone remote areas of the base, to reduce combustible plant material that could fuel potential wildfires.
The prescribed burn will only occur under optimal conditions of temperature, humidity, wind direction and wind speed to ensure safe operations and the protection of our neighboring communities.

Forest Service Issues Update On Rincon Prescribed Fire
SANTA FE—The Rincon prescribed fire involves 2,227 acres of hazardous fuels located on French Mesa off Forest Road 8 on the Coyote Ranger District. An Incident Commander (IC) is overseeing the fire until declared out. A fire is declared out when there is no visible smoke or heat detected.

Parks Crew To Remove Hazardous Trees At Ice Rink Oct. 26

The Los Alamos County Parks and Open Space Division will close the County Ice Rink parking lot 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26 to remove two unsafe trees from the property.

SFNF Completes Ignitions On Rincon Prescribed Fire
SANTA FE — Fire crews completed ignitions Saturday, Oct. 21, and secured containment lines Sunday, Oct. 22, on the Rincon prescribed fire on the Coyote Ranger District on the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF).
The Rincon prescribed fire involved 2,227 acres of hazardous fuels located on French Mesa off Forest Road 8. Sunday, a helicopter flew over the area and fire managers found all containment lines secure. PEEC’s popular early childhood morning program, Nature Playtime will resume Monday, Oct. 30.
