The big news this week is that Eagle Nest Lake has been opened for ice fishing. This is the best and most popular lake for ice fishing in New Mexico. It is well-stocked with rainbow trout. This year it has been more heavily-stocked than previous years.

County: Pre-Storm Tree Trimming Happening Now
COUNTY News:
Tree trimming coordinated by the Department of Public Utilities (DPU) is occurring now before the forecasted winter storm to reduce the chance of weather-related power outages.
The effort is focused on and near the intersection of 43rd Street and Urban Street in North Community.
Southwest Fire Defense & Tree Services is under contract with DPU to trim tree branches growing around power lines. The company has been mitigating hazards and power outages through tree trimming in Los Alamos throughout 2022.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee and co-chair of the Electrification Caucus, welcomed Tuesday’s announcement that the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) will be electrifying 75 percent of its new purpose-built Next Generation Delivery Vehicles (NGDV) and commit to acquire 100 percent electric NGDVs starting in 2026.
This is a significant increase from the 40 percent electric vehicle target that USPS announced earlier this year.

The Community’s Beloved Goose Homer Has Died
Beloved goose Homer has passed away. His longtime girlfriend Edna, at right, has not left his side and is seen here sleeping next to him Christmas night. Los Alamos residents visiting the pond over the years looked forward to seeing and sometimes feeding Homer, who had lived there for many years. He had been a bachelor much of the time and was featured in many pictures taken by hundreds of visitors to the pond. Homer would honk loudly and swim over to visitors; it seemed that he’d expect a treat, but he often would stay to visit with anyone who would talk with him. These people felt an unusual connection.
