Land Commissioner Stephanie Garcia Richard Awards Lease For Second Albuquerque Senior Affordable Housing Community

SANTA FE — New Mexico Commissioner of Public Lands Stephanie Garcia Richard announced Wednesday that the State Land Office is awarding a lease to Farolito Apartments LLLP to construct a new affordable housing community for Albuquerque’s seniors on state land near Eubank and Central.

Sealed bid envelopes were opened at a public auction at the State Land Office Wednesday morning, and Farolito Apartments LLLP submitted the winning bid and met all application requirements.

The lessee will pay approximately $2 million in rent payments over the 60-year, long-term lease. Read More

The forecast for the coming week is for much colder temperatures with lows in the teens and highs below freezing. In some of the higher elevations, lows could reach below zero.

Such frigid temperatures could be beneficial for those anglers who like to fish through the ice. Nearly if not all of the lakes that are popular ice-fishing destinations have frozen over, but the ice is not yet thick enough to safely fish on. Short juniper trees grow at lower elevations while tall ponderosa trees grow at higher elevations. Squirrels can be seen scampering across the ground and then up tree trunks. Hummingbirds arrive in the spring and then leave in the fall. Unusual looking things also can be seen.

Valles Caldera Plans 2022-23 Winter Prescribed Burns

VCNP News:

JEMEZ SPRINGS — The National Park Service plans to implement prescribed burn projects in Valles Caldera National Preserve (VCNP) between December 2022 and the end of the 2022-23 winter season when conditions allow.

The prescribed burns will occur in previously thinned areas where materials have been piled for burning. The burn operations will be completed in phases over several days depending on weather and fuel conditions.

SANTA FE The Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) Friday reinitiated a 45-day objection period for the final environmental assessment (EA) and draft decision notice on a proposed forest restoration project in the mountains near Santa Fe.

Publication of a legal notice in the Albuquerque Journal this morning officially starts the clock on the objection period.

In July, the SFNF withdrew the draft decision notice and finding of no significant impact (FONSI) for the Santa Fe Mountains Landscape Resiliency Project (SFMLRP) during suppression of the Hermits Peak-Calf Canyon Fire.
