Daily Postcard: The full moon with fall leaves and branches in the silhouette Monday evening in White Rock. According to the Farmer’s Almanac, this Full Moon is the Beaver Moon, also called the Frost or Frosty Moon, Snow Moon, Kartik Purnima, Moon of the Boun That Luang Festival and Il Poya. The full moon appears ‘opposite’ the Sun (in Earth based longitude) at 8:34 a.m. today. The moon will appear full for about three days centered on this time. The community is invited to join the Pajarito Environmental Education Center, astrophysicist Galen Gisler and avid hiker Jean Dewart of the Los Alamos Mountaineers Wednesday Nov. 13 for a full moon night hike and potluck dinner.

SANTA FE – The magnificent New Mexico blue spruce chosen to grace the west front of the U.S. Capitol this holiday season will make two stops on the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) next week as it begins its journey to Washington, D.C.
Harvested this week from the Carson National Forest, the 60-foot 2019 Capitol Christmas Tree will begin its cross-country tour Monday with 16 stops across New Mexico before heading east to Washington.

The Pajarito Astronomers is offering the community an opportunity to view the Transit of Mercury Monday morning, Nov 11, at Overlook Park in White Rock.
Mercury transits are rare events in which the planet Mercury passes directly in front of the Sun as seen from Earth. The planet appears as a tiny black dot, only 13 arc seconds in size, against the face of the Sun. The human eye cannot resolve objects smaller than 50 arc seconds across – smaller than about 1/40th
