BLM Quarterly Oil & Gas Lease Sale Nets $18,394,059

SANTA FE — The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) New Mexico raised $18,394,059 Thursday in its quarterly oil and gas lease sale.
 
Nearly 50 percent of the revenue from the sale will go to the states where the oil and gas activity occurs—in this case New Mexico and Oklahoma—while the rest will go to the U.S. Treasury.  
 
For this sale, the BLM offered leases on 16 parcels totaling 7,619.46 acres. The highest bid per acre was $18,501 sold to Federal Abstract Company for 40 acres in Lea County, New Mexico. The highest bid per parcel was a total of $15,341,534 sold to

Most of the stocking activity last week took place in Southern New Mexico.
 
This is part of the “Winter Trout Water” program of the State Game and Fish Department.
 
Rainbow trout are stocked in ponds, lakes and rivers in the southern part of the state during the cooler months of the year to provide trout fishing in areas where trout are not normally found. These waters become too warm during the summer months for trout to survive.

Making Communities More Resilient To Wildfire Is Focus Of Thompson Ridge Slash Pit Prescribed Burn

SANTA FE ― Fire managers on the Jemez Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) are working with local communities to reduce the risk of wildfire by planning a prescribed burn at the Thompson Ridge slash pit this winter.
 
The half-acre slash pit, located at the end of Forest Road 106 just north of the community of Thompson Ridge and ten miles north of Jemez Springs, is a collaborative effort between the Jemez Ranger District and the surrounding area to promote fire-adapted communities in the wildland-urban interface (WUI).

SANTA FE ― The City of Santa Fe voted unanimously Oct. 30 to pass a resolution supporting the protection of wildlife corridors in the upper Rio Grande Basin, as well as supporting pending legislation to protect wildlife corridors nationwide.
 
The City becomes the 10th jurisdiction in New Mexico to support such a resolution, joining Mora, Colfax, Rio Arriba, Santa Fe County, Taos County, as well as the Town of Taos, the Village of Pecos, and the City of Española.
