Valles Caldera Plans Prescribed Burns

JEMEZ SPRINGS – Valles Caldera National Preserve will initiate prescribed burn projects beginning later this week and early next week, dependent upon suitable weather and fuel conditions.

The prescribed burns will take place within a 630-acre project area in Banco Bonito and a 112-acre area on Cerro Seco. Both locations are within the western half of the preserve. SANTA FE After studying conditions, including fuel moisture levels, weather forecasts, air quality and wind direction, fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) have decided to delay the previously announced Pacheco Canyon prescribed burn until Sunday, May 5.

SANTA FE Fire managers on the Jemez Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) plan to implement a prescribed burn in the Tent Rocks area between May 11 and June 1, if conditions remain favorable.
