Public Weighs In On Proposed ‘Jim Billen Trail’

A crowd gathers Thursday night at Fuller Lodge to provide input on renaming a segment of the Pueblo Canyon Rim Trail as the Jim Billen Trail. Billen passed away April 14, 2018. Here, a committee of citizens, business owners and boards and commissions members hear a presentation by resident Irene Powell. You probably heard that PNM announced Monday that they will reach 100 percent carbon-free by 2040, five years earlier than ETA requires. This is very exciting news and moves us even faster toward protecting our planet.

SFNF May Conduct Prescribed Burn This Weekend

SFNF News:
 
SANTA FE The Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) may proceed with the previously announced Pacheco Canyon prescribed burn this weekend if conditions, including fuel moisture levels, air quality, wind direction and weather forecasts, are favorable.
 
Fire managers are looking at Saturday or Sunday to conduct this one-day burn. If conditions over the weekend are not optimal, the prescribed burn may be pushed into next week.
 
The 500-acre unit is adjacent to Forest Road (FR) 102, approximately six miles east of Tesuque Pueblo and three miles west of Ski Santa Fe.

Zero Waste Team Helps Reduce Food Waste

What’s the best tool for saving the environment? Education. And currently, a team of Zero Waste Team members are spreading the word about food waste reduction to local restaurants.
 
According to a report presented during a recent Environmental Sustainability Board meeting, the team visited 13 of the 26 local eateries on how they can reduce waste.
 
Jody Benson, a member of the team, told the Los Alamos Daily Post, “Our goal initially was to tell them that waste reduction is good for the bottom line.”

The New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) conducted nearly 100 regulatory inspections last week across the Permian Basin in southeastern New Mexico.
