SFNF: Black Canyon Campground Is Closed For Season; Refunds Issued

SANTA FE  Due to necessary maintenance, the Black Canyon Campground on the Espanola Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest is closed for the season, which ends Oct. 9.
 
All refunds were issued per a Recreation.Gov representative; however customers who have yet to receive reimbursement, such as on bank card statements, may call the Recreation.Gov help desk line at 877.345.6777. Customers may not be able to find reimbursement information at www.recreation.gov due to an online data migration. The online data migration is not expected to be completed

BLM Announces Annual Adjustment To Mineral Fee Cost-Recovery Schedule

BLM News:
 
WASHINGTON, D.C. The Bureau of Land Management began Oct. 1 using an updated fee schedule to recover costs incurred in processing certain actions related to oil, gas, coal, and solid minerals activities on public land.
 
The fee schedule is adjusted regularly based on inflation and follows procedures established under the 2005 Cost Recovery Rule. The updated schedule appears in today’s Federal Register and will be posted to the BLM website.

The community is invited to join PEEC and local birder Joe Fitzgibbon on a special birding outing Saturday, Oct. 6 at Los Luceros Historic Site.

Participants will spend the morning at the property, which features massive old-growth cottonwoods and fantastic Rio Grande habitat but is rarely open for birding. Space is limited to 12 participants and registration is required.

Jemez Ranger District Tent Rocks Prescribed Burn

SANTA FE Fire managers on the Jemez Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) plan to implement a prescribed burn, if conditions allow, between Oct. 15 and Nov. 30 in the Tent Rocks area.
 
The treatment area is approximately 3.5 miles north of Jemez Springs, NM and less than 1 mile southwest of La Cueva, NM. The Tent Rocks prescribed burn is to reduce risk of high-severity wildfire.

New Mexico Environment Department Awards APS Grant Funding For Early Replacement Of Five Buses

ALBUQUERQUE The Albuquerque Public School District has been awarded $380,626.00 in grant funding from the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA).
 
The grant provides partial funding for the early replacement of five older, more polluting diesel-fueled school buses with five new gasoline-fueled school buses that meet the current EPA emissions standards for heavy-duty vehicles.

SANTA FE ― To take advantage of favorable conditions, to include fuel moisture levels, air quality and weather forecasts, fire managers on the Jemez Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) expect to begin ignitions sometime between Oct. 15 and Feb. 28, 2019 on Joaquin piles to reduce the risk of high-severity wildfire.
 
Weather permitting, crews are expected to treat up to 347 acres of the Joaquin piles.
