Ben Ray Luján (D-NM) appeared before the House Committee on Natural Resources to call for action on his Land Grant and Acequia Traditional Use Recognition and Consultation Act, which would provide greater consultation between the federal government and New Mexico’s land grants and acequias.
 
Luján’s legislation, introduced in July 2018, would for the first time recognize the traditional uses of land grants and acequias’ natural resources in New Mexico.

Zinke Expands Hunting And Fishing Opportunities At 30 National Wildlife Refuges

Continuing his efforts to increase access to public lands, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke will open more than 251,000 acres to new or expanded hunting and fishing opportunities at 30 national wildlife refuges across the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s National Wildlife Refuge System.
 
This will now bring the number of units where the public may hunt to 377, and the number where fishing is permitted to 312.

SFNF: Prescribed Burn Planned For Late September

SANTA FE  Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) plan to take advantage of favorable conditions, including fuel moisture levels, air quality, and winds and weather forecasts to initiate a prescribed burn in the Santa Fe Watershed starting as early as Sept. 23.
