BLM Lifts Fire Restrictions For Farmington, Taos

BLM News:

FARMINGTON – The Bureau of Land Management Farmington District Office will rescind current fire restrictions effective 12:01 a.m. July 23, 2018. The fire restrictions will no longer be in effect on BLM-managed lands within the following counties: San Juan, Rio Arriba, Taos, Santa Fe, McKinley, Sandoval, Colfax, Union, Mora, Harding, Quay, and San Miguel within the Farmington District.

These fire restrictions have been in effect since June 6.

Smoke seen this morning on a drive along the Valle Grande. There are signs posted stating it is a managed burn – do not report. Officials are managing the lightning-caused Hidden Valley Fire to benefit resources within the Valles Caldera National Preserve. UPDATE: The Venado FIre on the Jemez Ranger District has grown to 50 acres. Due to fire behavior, Forest Road (FR) 376 is closed from Gilman Tunnels to the intersection of FR 488 and FR 376. Area day trip visitors are being notified by USDA Forest Service law enforcement to leave the area. One heavy air tanker is inbound, 1 helicopter with bucket is inbound with one on order, 1 single engine air tanker is inbound with 3 more on order, an additional hot shot crew is inbound, and 1 dozer is inbound. TAOS – U.S Sen. Tom Udall will speak at the release of an American Kestrel at the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge Sunday near Taos.

Holy Ghost Canyon Road To Close For Repairs Beginning July 23

SANTA FE  For public safety reasons, Forest Road 122 of Holy Ghost Canyon will close to vehicle access beginning July 23 primarily for major road repairs.
 
The gate to the Holy Ghost Canyon will close to the public for about three weeks, which places the anticipated reopening on or about Aug. 10.
 
The Holy Ghost Campground, Trailhead and Group Area is located in the Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) and will be inaccessible by vehicle during the closure period.
