New Mexico Senate Republicans Praise Lesser Prairie Chicken District Court Ruling

SANTA FE — Wednesday, the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas vacated the listing of the lesser prairie chicken as an endangered species under the Endangered Species Act.

The Court granted the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s voluntary motion to vacate the listing decision and remand the case, while denying untimely motions from environmental litigation groups seeking to intervene.

NNSA Issues Finding Of No Significant Impact To Environment From LANL Transmission Line Upgrade Project

The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) announced its findings today that construction of the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) Electrical Power Capacity Upgrade Project (DOE/EA-2199) would yield no significant impact to the environment.

The transmission line installation project will cross lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the U.S. Forest Service, Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF).

The EA analyzed the construction and operation of a new 115 kilovolt (kV) power transmission line to upgrade LANL’s existing electrical infrastructure. Read More

Public Invited To Tour Demonstration Garden Aug. 20

From Inclusivity Task Force Accessibility Subgroup:

County Shares Los Alamos Golf Course August Update

The Los Alamos County Golf Course front nine has been open for play for a month, and this morning, Aug. 11, staff evaluated the course for any problem areas and the overall status of the course for additional play.

Staff has confirmed that the front nine is holding up well and will be making a slight adjustment to the schedule. However, we feel that it is also still beneficial for the course to rest for a few days between open days.

Streamflows remain low in many parts of New Mexico. Unfortunately, the early predictions for the upcoming winter are for a weak La Nina pattern. La Nina usually means lower precipitation and warmer than average temperatures. 

One river that seems to be holding up well is the Pecos River. The Eastern slopes of the Sangre de Cristo mountains have been getting more monsoon rain than North-Central and Northwestern New Mexico.

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) is monitoring potential discoloration in the Upper Animas River caused by a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency team entering the Natalie Occidental Mine near Cement Creek in southwestern Colorado for a routine inspection.
