PCA: Pajarito Mountain Land Transfer Concerns Are Easy To Resolve

Pajarito Conservation Alliance News:

As many citizens are aware, the complete ownership of Pajarito Mountain is planned for transfer to a private company, Pajarito Recreation, LLC (PRLLC).
 
This has been controversial due to concerns about public access for non-skiing activities and natural resource conservation, which we have previously expressed ourselves.

We emphasize that PCA strongly supports all the uses of the mountain, including specifically downhill skiing and mountain biking as well as hiking, running, cross-country skiing, etc. We are not opposed to a public-private

The demolition of the Omega Peace Institute building next to the Black Hole began Monday on Arkansas Street. Workers spent most of the early afternoon tearing down the building now owned by the family of the late Ed Grothus. The weather last week was warm, but it has turned colder this week. There have been some good snow storms just to the north of us.
 
Wolf Creek Ski Area has received over 50 inches of snow in the past seven days and more is forecast later this week. Colder temperatures than we have been experiencing are forecast for the rest of this coming week. Any snow we get to help alleviate the lack of snow in December and January will be most welcome. Giant Arachnids Take Over Atomic Science Museum … School Children Line Up For Chance To Handle Them

The Department of the Interior’s Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSMRE) today announced the availability of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 Abandoned Mine Land (AML) Reclamation grants, which will provide $2,802,000 million to New Mexico to reclaim abandoned coal mines.

SANTA FE  To take advantage of favorable conditions, to include fuel moisture levels, air quality and weather forecasts, fire managers on the Cuba Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) expect to begin ignitions on Chaparral piles to reduce the risk of high-severity wildfire.

JEMEZ SPRINGS — The Village of Jemez Springs announced that they plan to postpone the annual “Cabin Fever Festival” originally scheduled for this Saturday,
 
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Feb. 24 citing weather forecasts of windy and near-freezing conditions. The Village plans to reschedule the event towards the end of March, and may announce a new date by next week.
 
“Most weather reports are forecasting highs in the low 30s and gusty winds on the day of the event, so to be prudent and fair to our visitors and vendors, we are postponing the event,” Mayor Bob Wilson said.
