Fallen Tree Causes Small Fire On West Road
Los Alamos Fire Department responded to a small fire at around 2:30 p.m. Sunday on West Road, which burned about a 10th of an acre. The fire was caused by a tree that fell on a powerline. Pajarito Mountain Ski Area experienced a power outage as a result of the fallen tree and about a dozen skiers were evacuated from a lift. Deputy Chief Steve DeWald said having a grass fire in January is quite unusual but that the area is more susceptible to these types of incidents due to lack of moisture. Access to Majority of Bureau of Land Management Public Lands to Remain Open
WASHINGTON, D.C. – During the lapse of appropriations and the subsequent shutdown of the federal government, the majority of Bureau of Land Management (BLM) public lands across the country will remain as accessible as possible while still following all applicable laws and procedures.
BLM roads, trails, campgrounds, boat ramps and recreation sites will remain accessible to visitors, but emergency and rescue services will be limited.
