BLM Announces Selections For Leadership Positions

The Bureau of Land Management has announced two key leadership positions:
 
Kristin Bail will serve as the agency’s acting director; and
Jody L. Hudson has been selected as the assistant director for Human Capital Management.
 
Previous BLM Director Neil Kornze stepped down Jan. 20 with the transition to the new administration. Hudson succeeds Carole Carter-Pfisterer who retired from the BLM last month.

Heinrich Secures Agreement From Trump Administration To Not Vacate Management Of Nuclear Stockpile

Early planning paid off for those who wanted to see the Backcountry Film Festival this Thursday.

Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) worked with the Reel Deal Theater and local sponsors to bring the films to Los Alamos, and its popularity exceeded their expectations when it sold out Sunday evening.

NWS: Winter Storm Warning Until Noon Today

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch until noon today for the Los Alamos area. The NWS predicts today’s high near 31 with a 50 percent chance of scattered snow showers, some thunder also is possible.
 
Total daytime snow accumulation of around an inch is possible.
 
There is a 30 percent chance of scattered snow showers tonight with a low of around 14 and a new snow accumulation of less than one inch is possible.

The National Weather Service predicts today’s high near 40 degrees with a 40 percent chance of rain and snow. A total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. Seafloor Valleys Found Below West Antarctic Glaciers

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Glaciologists have uncovered large valleys in the ocean floor beneath some of the massive glaciers flowing into the Amundsen Sea in West Antarctica.

Safe Drinking Water Service Restored At Questa

SANTA FE  The Village of Questa in Taos County lifted its drinking water system’s precautionary boil water advisory Tuesday to restore water service for nearly 2,000 residents.
 
Staff from the New Mexico Environment Department’s Drinking Water Bureau (DWB) worked with the Village of Questa throughout the recent water emergency to ensure the protection of public health. 
 
The precautionary advisory was first issued Dec. 7, 2016 to ensure drinking water safety after Questa’s well production problems and distribution system pressure issues
