Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) welcomes back talented artist Lisa Coddington, who will teach a two-day workshop on drawing and watercolor using botanical and natural subjects.

The class will be held at the Los Alamos Nature Center 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 12 and 13. Coddington’s class is open to all, from beginners to advanced artists.

SFNF Waives Fees In Honor Of Veterans Day

SANTA FE  The Santa Fe National Forest will honor Veterans Day by waiving fees at many recreation sites and amenities Friday, Nov. 11.
 
Fees at all national forests and grasslands will be waived at many day-use sites, such as picnic grounds and developed trailheads, in cooperation with other federal agencies under the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act. Veterans Day is the last fee-free day for 2016.

Gallina WUI Prescribed Burn Planned On Coyote Ranger District

SANTA FE  Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest expect to begin the previously announced Gallina wildland-urban interface (WUI) prescribed burn on the Coyote Ranger District today if conditions, including fuel moisture levels, air quality and weather forecasts are favorable.

The chance visit of a California Condor to Joe Fitzgibbon’s yard in April of last year inspired him to embark on a journey to learn more about his unusual visitor.

Fitzgibbon will share photos, stories and other information about the California Condor, their life history and recovery efforts at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1. This is a free talk at the Los Alamos Nature Center.

FARMINGTON The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Farmington Field Office and the Bureau of Indian Affairs’ (BIA) Navajo Regional Office announced Oct. 21 the start of an expanded resource management planning effort for northwest New Mexico with the publication of a Notice of Intent in the Federal Register.
