In this image from ESO’s Very Large Telescope (VLT), light from blazing blue stars energizes the gas left over from the stars’ recent formation. The result is a strikingly colorful emission nebula, called LHA 120-N55, in which the stars are adorned with a mantle of glowing gas. Astronomers study these beautiful displays to learn about the conditions in places where new stars develop.

The Pajarito Astronomers will be holding a County-Sponsored Dark Night at 8:30 p.m. (sunset,) Saturday June 25, at Spirio Soccer Field in Overlook Park in White Rock.

SAN FRANCISCO  At the inaugural Mission Innovation (MI) Ministerial, ministers from all Mission Innovation partners released their respective governments’ plans to double clean energy research and development funding over five years. Prescribed Burn Planned At Pajarito Ski Area June 15

LAFD News:
 
The Los Alamos Fire Department will be burning three acres at the Pajarito Ski Area if weather permits at around 9 a.m., June 15.
 
The area is a meadow. A fire line will be constructed around that area. Prescribed fires are managed with firefighter and public safety as the first priority. 
 
Smoke from the prescribed burn will be monitored to ensure that the New Mexico Environment Department’s Air Quality Bureau regulations are being met. Smoke will likely be visible from Espanola, Santa Clara and Santa Fe and from Highways 502 and 285.
