State Extends Modified Stay-At-Home Order … New Mexico Enters ‘Preparation Phase’ For Safe Reopening

STATE News:

SANTA FE – New Mexico state leadership this afternoon announced the extension of the state’s emergency public health order through May 15 as the COVID-19 pandemic remains a grave risk to residents of all ages and in all communities across New Mexico. 

As of today, there were 3,411 reported positive cases in the state of New Mexico and 123 reported fatalities associated with the virus.

The highly contagious virus continues to spread in communities statewide, with particular emphasis in the northwestern part of the state.

Los Alamos County remains at 6 cases that have tested positive for COVID-19.

Today’s update includes 11 additional deaths in New Mexico related to COVID-19.

State Achieves 96 Percent Application Processing Rate For 12-Months For Medicaid And SNAP Benefits

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Human Services Department (HSD) achieved a 96 percent monthly processing standard for Medicaid and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) applications for more than 12 consecutive months, with not a single office falling below 94 percent for two consecutive months.

Thus, the Honorable Kenneth Gonzales in his opinion and order dated April 24, 2020, ruled that HSD had fully complied with the timely eligibility processing requirement and that “good cause” existed to eliminate that requirement from the consent decree.

Annual New Mexico Heart Walk Goes Virtual June 13

ALBUQUERQUE — Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller and other mayors throughout New Mexico are encouraging New Mexicans to stay healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

They are lending their support to The American Heart Association’s annual Heart Walk – proclaiming June 13 New Mexico Heart Walk Day.

The annual event is moving to a virtual component this year, so people throughout the State can walk at home, outside (following Social Distancing measures), and be heart healthy.

NM Supreme Court Postpones Bar Exam Due To Pandemic

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Supreme Court has postponed the bar examination scheduled for July for law school graduates and attorneys seeking to practice in New Mexico.

The bar examination is now scheduled for September because of the COVID-19 public health emergency.

The Court ordered the establishment of a working group by the executive director of the Board of Bar Examiners to develop recommendations for how to conduct the exam in small groups to comply with social distancing requirements if those remain in place in September.
