Postponed: Coffee With A Cop And Athletes

 

LAPD News:
The Los Alamos Police Department has announced that next week’s Coffee with a Cop and Special Olympics Athletes at Starbucks will be postponed based on precautions related to the Coronavirus.
“On Wednesday, March 11, we received an official statement from Special Olympics that they would be suspending all fundraising efforts for their athletes until March 31 at which point they will re-evaluate the situation,” Cmdr. Oliver Morris said.

NM Health Officials Announce 4 More COVID-19 Cases

From the Office of the Governor:

SANTA FE – New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) officials this morning announced four more New Mexico residents who tested presumptive positive for COVID-19.
This added to the six presumptive positive tests earlier this week brings the number to 10 cases in New Mexico.
Per NMDOH, the most recent cases are:
  • ​A Bernalillo County man in his mid-50s with close household contact with a previous presumptive positive resident. He is at home in isolation;
  • ​A Bernalillo County man in his 80s with close household contact with a previous presumptive positive resident.

New Mexico Closes K-12 Public Schools For Three Weeks To Prevent Potential Spread Of COVID-19

‘Our goal is to be so effective at containment that three weeks is all we will need.’ –Gov. Lujan Grisham

SANTA FE – Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham announced today that New Mexico K-12 public schools will close for three weeks, effective Monday, March 16, to mitigate the risk of community spread of COVID-19.

The order closing all public pre-schools and K-12 schools will be effective through April 3 and may be extended as conditions warrant. Schools will not be required to make up the missed  instructional days at the end of the academic year, the Public Education Department said.

Canceled: CDAB Meeting Scheduled For Monday

COUNTY News:

The Community Development Advisory Board (CDAB) scheduled for Monday, March 16 has been canceled.

The decision was made after consulting with Vice Chair Catherine Ozment and Council Liaison James Robinson. The reason behind cancelling the meeting is COVID-19 concerns.

“While I realize the risk right now may not be high, I was not willing to potentially risk the health of board members and their families,” CDAB Chair Aaron Walker said. “In my opinion, the tasks we had upcoming on our agenda can afford to wait a month in order to prioritize health and safety measures.”

The United States is still failing to meet the grave threats posed by COVID-19.

Testing for COVID-19 must be central to addressing the outbreak. Yet, testing is not being carried out in sufficient numbers to stem the growth of COVID-19 cases. South Korea has tested more than 700 times the number of people per capita than we have tested and Japan 12 times. Sixth Presumptive Positive COVID-19 Case In New Mexico

SANTA FE — New Mexico health officials announced Thursday that a sixth New Mexico resident tested presumptive positive for COVID-19, adding to the five presumptive positive tests this week.

Per New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH), the most recent case is a Santa Fe County woman in her 50s with known recent international travel to Italy. She is at home in isolation.
