NMED Approves 10-Year Renewal Permit For WIPP

SANTA FE — On Oct. 4, the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) signed a Final Order approving a Proposed Final Permit for the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) Hazardous Waste Facility 10-Year Renewal.

The Final Order comes after completion of nine months of public comment and will become effective  Nov. 3, 2023.

“The new permit will benefit New Mexico and legacy waste clean-up from around the U.S. for years to come,” NMED Cabinet Secretary James Kenney said.

LANL: Statement Of Findings Issued For Los Alamos Canyon Sediment Reduction And Restoration Project

LANL News:

The Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration’s (DOE/NNSA) Los Alamos Field Office has issued a Floodplain Statement of Findings for the Los Alamos Canyon Sediment Reduction and Restoration Project.

The Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities is planning to restore and address sedimentation from post wildfire flooding impacts in Los Alamos Canyon located within the 100-year floodplain.

This restoration project includes:

  • The upper watershed area above the reservoir;
  • The reservoir; and
  • The area where Los Alamos Canyon Creek, water pipeline
