This refers to the anguish expressed on the “non-following of traffic rules” and “likely threat to safety” expressed by Ms. Betty Jacob in her letter “Homicide By Motor Vehicle” (link), a long time resident and “concerned” citizen in Los Alamos.

She hinted that such a situation is also due to “finding police only after accidents”.

She also questioned the “driving license control”…

She expresses “more concern” when the city turns to a “tourist paradise” and additional apartments are thrown open.

All these concerns are true as observed by her.

But as an outsider who had been at Los Alamos for nine months or so and who has walked all over the city with my spouse [both are in 80s] during 2022 we had mostly observed how most of the vehicles were absolutely following rules and signals and presence or absence of police presence was not an issue on the “safe driving habits” of well trained car owners and drivers.

Yet if police presence is visible enough at critical routes that will give some “peace of mind” for elders like Betty.
