Small Space Design Tips
If your home or apartment feels small to you, maximizing space is essential. My first home was a 900 square foot bungalow in Florida. I quickly learned how to make the best use of a small space.
Squeezing in as much usable space as possible makes rooms livable by helping it function properly, keeping claustrophobic feelings (and clutter) at bay, and making a home (especially a tiny one) feel more spacious.
No matter the square footage, it really comes down to being smart about

NCRTD To Undergo Massive Route Changes March 16
NCRTD News:Food on the Hill: Best Intentions Green Chile Stew
Food on the HillI had intended this week to share one of the soups my mother made regularly as we were growing up: potato leek. I was planning to make a big batch to share. I purchased five pounds of Yukon gold potatoes and two bunches of leeks and a bouquet of fresh parsley to chop as a bright green garnish for the top of each bowl. I knew that pureeing some of the potato/leek mixture after it was cooked would take the place of most or all of the cream one might ordinarily add. I also have a tip to share about cleaning leeks, which are notoriously muddy and gritty.
And then…it was as though a spell Read More
Real Estate Corner: Why Do I Need Title Insurance?
Real Estate CornerWhy Do I Need Title Insurance?
One of the most common questions buyers ask during the process of buying a home is “What is title insurance and why do I need it?” Title insurance (also known as an owner’s’ title policy) is issued by a title company and protects you against claims against your property and events that have happened in the past. The underwriter of the title company in addition will defend you in court if there is a claim on your title.
What Types of Policies are Available to a Homeowner?

Pastor Granillo: Finding Virtue
By Pastor RAUL GRANILLOI sat down at my desk one day and was startled when I felt something grab my legs. My daughter Hannah was curled up underneath hiding from her brother Kyle. I know this because she told me. I was confused because I had just seen Kyle watching TV in the other room with no concern of the world around him. After some investigative work I found out that he couldn’t find her so he gave up and started watching T.V. She had been hiding for about a half-hour. If hide-and-seek were an Olympic sport, Hannah would surely be a gold medalist.

How the Hen House TurnsOffhand, I can think of six living beings whose lives were shaped—even defined—by their early years.
Before Lucy goose came to the Hen House “for safe keeping,” she was raised by 4-H girls in Wyoming. As a result, she hissed at husband Don but was friendly to all my female friends. She felt quite comfortable standing around with them as they gathered at the chicken pen to visit the latest occupants.
She also enjoyed choosing music for the recorder players sitting in a circle on Joy Drake’s patio. (She didn’t like Read More
Solo Traveler: A Dog’s Life

Solo TravelerIn February 2010, I lived in San Miguel de Allende, in central Mexico. One Sunday afternoon I went to Centro to sit on a bench and people-watch in the shade of dense trees trimmed into umbrella shapes.
Sundays are family day in Mexico. All over town, men strode around with children riding on their shoulders; the wives had babies tucked into rebozos with bigger kids in tow.
Two American women had a couple of darling puppies they’d rescued from a sick street-dog. Both looked like they had some Labrador retriever in Read More

Food on the Hill: Spinach Salad With Strawberries
Food on the HillSkiers had cause to celebrate this past week in Los Alamos, as did those of us patrolling the produce section for the very earliest signs of spring: the light green asparagus with tightly closed tips, and an abundance of fresh berries from California. (Contrary indicators remain, of course—whoever is pressing “Ripe Now” stickers on the rock-hard avocados appears mistaken either about the meaning of the word “ripe” or the concept of “now.”)
But the strawberries! Enough to brighten a late-winter salad, and I was delighted to enjoy such a salad prepared by Robyn Schultz Read More

Pastor Granillo: Finding Happiness

By Pastor RAUL GRANILLO
Charles Spurgeon said, “It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness.” I dare say most of us can relate to that. As I put more years behind me, I find that I appreciate what I have more than I used to and that I make a greater attempt to enjoy those things I do have before I lose them.
The romantic love that caused me to pursue my wife, the moments that my kids want to hang out, the ability to comfort friends; all these things mean more to me now than they used to and as such they also make me happier. But I also know, like the rest of the world, that these things Read More
