Help With the Hard Stuff:

Managing Student Loans

Part 3 (of 5) “Work-out and Default Options between Federal and Private Loans Are Critically Important”
By Gini Nelson, JD, MA

I emphasized in my last column the importance of understanding the different legal options federal lenders and private lenders have in responding to a student loan borrower’s inability to pay. Simply put:

Letter to the Editor: Voice Opposition to Shutdown

By Rep. Stephanie Garcia Richard
Los Alamos

Whether or not you agree with the Affordable Care Act, the viability and sustainability of Los Alamos and LANL depend on a continuing resolution to be passed and a budget approved.

This issue is beyond partisan politics and threatens thousands of families in Los Alamos and the surrounding area. I am speaking with our federal delegation and urging them to continue to press their fellow members until Congress restarts the federal government.

Los Alamos and our entire region depend on a predictable federal budget process,

Letter to the Editor: The Common Man

By LYNNE COMPTON
Los Alamos

The Common Man

When our government starts to fail

The Common Man gets to post its bail

He trucks food across country so we can eat

Gives shelter to soldiers to rest their feet

Makes sure that the children rest safe in their beds

Puts roofs for the elderly over their heads

And when the elected Read More

Fall: Time to Reassess and Revitalize

FACE – Shape up sun damaged skin

Despite your best intentions this last summer, you may still end up with photo damage.Start a skincare routine that includes alpha- or beta-hydroxy acid products or retinols to help restore abnormal cells, diminishing fine lines and creating a better overall skin texture. Hannemann’s Music Corner: A Powerful Question of Discovery

Hannemann’s Music Corner
A Powerful Question of Discovery
Column by RICHARD HANNEMAN

There are certain phrases which, in any language, seem to carry an abundance of power. They are the kinds of phrases which encourage, which heal, which galvanize. Yet, oddly enough they are rarely found in what is considered great oratory. One such is a question.

What is the most powerful question one could ask? Some would say it is “why” as in, “why am I here?” or “why is the world the way it is?” A great deal of great philosophic thought starts with “why?” Read More
