Yang: I Like Brevity … Till I Need More
I Like Brevity … Till I Need MorePithy comments can be enlightening, useful, and often embed great wisdom. However, sometimes, their brevity leaves much to ponder over. Or, maybe that’s the purpose of pithy words; it provokes us to think more.
While I cherish Robert Townsend’s “Up The Organization,” full of piercing observations of organizational nonsense and wise advise to counter it, I often want to parse some sentences for details on the how’s. It is difficult to address how’s in a pithy manner. A thoughtful and wise manager (yes, it’s a rarity but such managers exist) may Read More
‘Twas Three Months Before Christmas
‘Twas three months before Christmas‘Twas three months before Christmas
And all through the nation
Everyone was fearful
And manning their stations.
When Big Money decided
It’s that time of year
To take a break, a reprieve,
From our anger and fear.
Big Money’s no fool;
He’d grown strong and, yes, bold.
But his streets were in need
Of more layers of gold.
He deserved it, you see,
For he had worked hard this past year.
Installing the minions
With false pride and big fear.
It took hard work to buy
All those hearts and those minds.
They came from everyone,

Solo Traveler: FoodFor people going on a cruise, where delicious food is available all day and into the night, it’s probably better to lose weight before the trip. Foodie tours of France, Italy, and Mexico can quickly pack on the pounds, too.

How the Hen House Turns: What is Wild? Thinking of Mr. Peacock
How the Hen House Turns: What is Wild? Thinking of Mr. PeacockMr. Peacock wasn’t very wild. He would not let me approach, though he was very young, but he obviously wanted to be in the Hen House pen with the other birds. Then he would hop down and play the “shy new kid on the block” for the day.
So what does wild mean? Number one in my dog-eared American Heritage Dictionary says it means, “occurring, Read More
Letter to the Editor: Praise For Atomic City!
By DANA KLINE We have the best bus system! This morning, I missed my connection to the middle school at 7 a.m., but the bus driver, Mick, arranged for the Dial-A-Ride to get me to work.
I wasn’t even one minute late! You guys ROCK! I’ve been riding this bus system since its inception, and I have experienced only professionalism, responsibility and safety for all these years.
I’ve ridden public transportation in many big cities, and I hope we all know how fortunate we are to have such a wonderful system! Go Atomic City Transit!
Column: How The Mighty Have Fallen
How The Mighty Have FallenFollowing the rainy season, we have seen a number of fallen trees throughout the community. Are your older trees ready for the next big storm? Are you concerned about a tree falling over, or a large limb crashing down on your house or car? It is during the seasons of rainy and windy weather when trees that have become hazardous make their presence known.
How can you tell if you have a hazardous tree before it lands on your house? First, inspect your trees regularly, both before and after storms. If you see Read More
