Regarding LA County’s discussion of updating the Nuisance Code, which addresses weeds, refuse and rubbish, etc., I am reminded of Luke 4:23: “Physician, heal yourself”.

Here is what the current Weeds Ordinance says:

From the Los Alamos County Code of Ordinances Sec. 18-42. – Weeds, brush piles, refuse and rubbish:

All premises and exterior property shall be maintained free from weeds or plant growth in excess of 18 inches. Weeds shall be defined as all grasses,

By BECKY RUTHERFORD
Los Alamos

Oh boy, Thanksgiving!

That means it’s time for … online shopping!  Time to scoop up some sweet bargains on hot items like gaming equipment, toys, electronics and more, right?

Just be careful out there, and make sure you don’t get scammed.

Here’s some tips for safer online shopping:

          • If a deal looks too good to be true, it probably is a scam. If you are scrolling Facebook and you see an offer for a PlayStation 5 for just $99.99 if you click here RIGHT NOW…do not click. Fake ads leading consumers to fake shopping websites are way too common, and you will end up losing those

Fr. Glenn: The Rich Poor And The Poor Rich

By Fr. Glenn Jones:

A Vietnamese family lived in one of the larger houses in the city. After a time, starving orphaned children would come to the house begging for food, but there was none to be had; the meagre rations the residents were provided weren’t enough for one person, much less several, and they’d been reduced Read More

Given the nearness of Thanksgiving Day, I recently googled “attitude of gratitude.”

It took 0.45 seconds for over 42 million websites to appear.

In less than half a second, I had access to the advantages of cultivating an attitude of gratitude, tips for developing an attitude of gratitude, celebrities who exhibit an attitude of gratitude, and – for those who are so inclined – scientifically proven Read More

Skolnik: COVID, The Flu, And RSV – What To Do?

By RICHARD SKOLNIK
Los Alamos

I was pleased to see the video summary of the recent County Council meeting (link). I was also pleased to see a comment in the video on COVID. However, I was disappointed that the only specific action point recommended for COVID was to suggest that “if you are feeling bad and are sick, stay home and don’t get other people sick.”

In this light, I wanted to help clarify for the community some additional measures of importance to help keep yourself, your family, and the community safe.

First, let’s consider the context. Everyone should understand that COVID, influenza, Read More

Inversion tables are all the rage in Hollywood. With claims of improved skin, enhanced spinal flexibility and restored height, you need one now … or do you?

A quick search of PubMed yielded limited results, published research on inversion therapy is scarce. So … what are the benefits of using inversion? Studies on inversion therapy for low back pain and degenerative disc disease show that daily use of inversion improves lumbar disc height, lowers perceived pain scores and decreases the need for surgery. The reason for this, inversion counteracts Read More
