Abiquiu Lake To Host Annual Midwinter Eagle Count Jan. 10

ABIQUIU — U.S. Army Corps of Engineers staff at Abiquiu Lake will host their annual midwinter eagle survey, from 9 a.m.–12 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026.

The event is free and open to the public. Volunteers are asked to meet at the Abiquiu Lake Visitor Center for registration beginning at 9 a.m. The Abiquiu Lake Visitor Center is located on Hwy 96, just 2 miles west of the Hwy 84 junction.

Los Alamos High School (LAHS) DECA students wrapped up their annual sock drive for area homeless shelters with a final count of 1,238 pairs of socks collected.

The annual service project coordinated by LAHS DECA began in early November and ended Dec. 10. The donations were taken to two shelters in Santa Fe and a shelter in Española.

NMAR: New Mexico Home Sales Ease In November As Prices Hold Steady Year-Over-Year

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Association of Realtors (NMAR) reports that across New Mexico, the housing market showed a seasonal slowdown in November 2025, with both month-over-month and year-over-year declines in sales activity, while prices remained relatively stable.

HARRY DREICER Oct. 6, 1927 – Dec. 5, 2025

Harry Dreicer, 98, controlled thermonuclear fusion researcher and plasma physicist, passed away peacefully at home on December 5, 2025, in Santa Fe, NM.

His parents, Efim and Genia Drejcer, were Russian Jews who fled the Bolshevik Revolution and made their way to Germany where he was born on October 6, 1927. At the age of ten in 1938, he and the family fled to Italy. By 1939 they had managed to settle in the USA. He became a US citizen on July 10, 1946, his entire family having been stateless since 1922.

ALBUQUERQUE – A Gallup man was sentenced to 57 months in federal prison for strangling his dating partner and leaving her with life-threatening injuries.

As the new Los Alamos County Human Resources Manager, Bernadette Martinez has made helping people her entire career.

She explained she has worked for Los Alamos County, in the Human Resources Division, for 15 years. She started as a Human Resources Technician as rose through the ranks before officially becoming the manager Dec. 8. Martinez took over the position from Mary Tapia.
