UPDATE: Road is cleared and traffic is moving smoothly. The Los Alamos Police Department has closed one lane on the Main Hill Road this morning for an undisclosed amount of time due to a rockslide. Officers are allowing commuters to use one lane and directing traffic around the rockslide located near Anderson Lookout. Commuters are encouraged to seek an alternate route and to expect delays. After-School Good News Clubs Expanding To Pojoaque, Sobrillo, And Espanola
COMMUNITY News:
After-school Good News Clubs are are in all 5 elementary schools in Los Alamos, and are now expanding into Pojoaque, Sobrillo, and Espanola.
Each Club meets once a week after school and features Bible and missionary stories, Scripture memory, songs, games, snacks, prizes and occasional crafts.
The Clubs are inter-denominational, entirely free, and run from September through the end of April. No Clubs on snow days, holidays, or parents conference days.

The Museum of Indian Arts and Culture invites the public to a vibrant and family-friendly celebration of Indigenous Peoples Day 2025, from 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 12.

We will be selling hamburgers, brats, and hotdogs. There will also be a cakewalk, face painting, bake sale, auction items, NFB merchandise, a braille booth, and live music by local musician Bob Manzanares. SANTA FE — Today, statewide land grant and acequia leaders joined the legislature’s interim Land Grant Committee to announce their shared legislative priorities for the upcoming session. In this final meeting of the interim committee, members officially endorsed three pieces of proposed legislation.

UNION COUNTY —The New Mexico Environment Department is warning visitors to avoid water contact at Clayton Lake after samples confirmed the presence of harmful algae and toxins.
Harmful algae blooms, or HABs, occur when certain types of algae grow excessively in water, posing potential health risks to people and animals. HABs can appear blue, bright green, brown or red and may resemble scum or floating grass clippings on the water’s surface. These blooms can produce toxins that are harmful to humans and animals.

It is with profound sadness that I write to share the news that Darleane C. Hoffman, pioneering nuclear chemist and trailblazer for women in science, has passed away (Sept. 4, 2025) at the age of 98.
Professor Hoffman was born and raised in Iowa. She entered Iowa State College (now Iowa State University), where she first majored in applied art but later changed to chemistry, and there earned her B.S. (1948) and then her Ph.D. (1951) in physical (nuclear) chemistry.
