County Begins Pavement Marking Work

COUNTY News:

San Bar Construction Corp crews working under contract with Los Alamos County has begun work on refreshing turn lane, bike lane, stop bars and crosswalk pavement markings at various intersections in Los Alamos Townsite. 

The process includes grinding out the old pavement markings before placing the new.  This work will generally occur between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday–Thursday.  Work may extend to 9 p.m. on some days and also occur on Fridays to minimize impacts to traffic during busy traffic periods. Work is scheduled to continue through Sept. 19, weather permitting.

Emergency-Preparedness Exercise Scheduled At Los Alamos National Laboratory Wednesday Sept. 3

LANL News:

Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has scheduled an emergency preparedness exercise for Wednesday, Sept. 3.

The exercise will test the preparedness of personnel who would respond in the case of an actual emergency.

The exercise will last approximately six hours, beginning at 10 a.m. The event is only an exercise.

Some elements of this exercise may be observable to the public, such as increased emergency vehicle traffic, workers in protective equipment performing simulated activities and “exercise in progress” signage.

Davis Was Best Predictor In Weekly Pace Race

Eric Davis was the top predictor in the weekly pace race held by the picnic grounds on North Mesa.  He was 21 seconds off his predicted time.

Other accurate predictors were 3-year-old Max Davis at 24 seconds off as well as the first male finisher in the 1-mile race with a time of 10:53; Eric Anderson had a 49 second differential; Lynn Bjorklund recorded a 99 second difference and was the best female finisher in the 3 mile distance with a time of 25:21; and Madeline Harms had a 107 second differential.

Los Alamos Police Identify Woman In Vehicle Theft Case

The Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) has identified the woman suspected of stealing a Los Alamos County vehicle on Aug. 20, 2025, from the area of Ashley Pond. Officers arrested Alexis Nevels, 32, of Los Alamos the same day, but she refused to identify herself.

Nevels is charged with the Unlawful Taking Of A Motor Vehicle, a fourth-degree felony, and Concealing Identity, a petty misdemeanor.

Fencing To Be Installed Around Los Alamos National Laboratory’s Health Research Laboratory

Los Alamos National Laboratory’s (LANL) Health Research Laboratory (HRL) complex, adjacent to Los Alamos Medical Center on Diamond Drive, is being emptied for pre-demolition preparation activities. Albuquerque And Bernalillo County To Receive Major Housing Investment For Housing, Homelessness
