A Lazuli Bunting is spotted perched on a branch Wednesday morning on Los Pueblos. Two male and one female Lazuli Buntings have been seen on Los Pueblos during the last two days. Lazuli Buntings are small, finchlike, stocky songbirds with cone-shaped bills and gently sloping foreheads. The tail is notched or slightly forked. Male Lazuli Buntings perch upright and sing from exposed perches in low trees and shrubs. Los Alamos has lost a friend. Tom Lehrer, musician and mathematician, died July 26 in Cambridge, Mass., at age 97.
Some people will not recognize the name. but those who date back to the 1950s on the Hill and those who were in college in the ‘50s and ’60 s remember Lehrer’s songs, most of them written by Tom himself. They were light and fun.
Just a few years ago, Liz Martineau, Gordon McDonough, and I got the idea of playing Lehrer’s music in the Bethe House for visitors to enjoy. We had old records to make that idea possible, but we felt that we should ask Tom’s permission. Read More

On Friday, August 8, 2025, Nathan Richard Hase passed away at the age of 92. He was the loving husband of Martha Jo, and father to Kristin and Kevin.
Nathan was born on January 25, 1933, in Elk City, Kansas, to Eugene Edgar and Pairidine (Mason) Hase. He married Martha Jo on June 5, 1960. Their daughter, Kristin Michelle, was born on February 4, 1963, and their son, Kevin Richard, was born on March 27, 1968.
