Bicyclist Injured In Vehicle Crash At Diamond & Orange
Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) officers, along with personnel from the Los Alamos Fire Department, responded at approximately 9 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2025, to a motor vehicle crash involving a bicyclist near the intersection of Diamond Drive and Orange Street.
Upon arrival, emergency responders identified a 14-year-old male bicyclist who had sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He was treated at the scene and subsequently transported to Los Alamos Medical Center for further medical care. An update on the juvenile’s condition is not currently available. Read More
Los Alamos County Animal Control Urges Caution As Rattlesnake Activity Increases Around Community

Los Alamos County Animal Control officials urge residents to use caution when outdoors, as seasonal climate conditions and recent sightings indicate an increase in rattlesnake activity.
“Rattlesnakes play an important role in the local ecosystem but can pose a danger when startled or provoked,” Animal Control Supervisor Theresa Phelan said. “Awareness and simple precautions can go a long way in preventing incidents.”
Phelan provided the following safety tips for avoiding snake encounters while outdoors:

Dr. Mudundi Ramakrishna Raju, retired scientist and Fellow of Los Alamos National Laboratory, passed away on June 24, 2025, in his hometown in India. His funeral was conducted with full state honors in the presence of family, friends and community leaders.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Subhadra Devi Raju, whom he loved and admired deeply. Dr. Raju leaves behind a lasting legacy of pioneering research on radiation cancer treatment as well as an impressive record of humanitarian work.

SANTA FE — The smell of marijuana remained a valid basis for police to search a vehicle without a warrant during the time when New Mexico had decriminalized the possession of small amounts of marijuana, the New Mexico Supreme Court ruled Thursday.

Sunday, July 6, 2025, our community lost Damon Giovanielli, a happy, loving man, who “always had a sparkle in his eyes” and a longing to interact with those around him.
Damon was born in Teaneck, NJ, May 8, 1943, and stuck close to home for college, attending Princeton University. He went on to earn his PhD in physics from Dartmouth College and spent the majority of his scientific career at Los Alamos National Laboratory.
