SANTA FE — Santa Fe Community College Library will present “Herding Poems: A Reading by Miriam Sagan” from 5–6:15 p.m., Thursday, July 31. The free online poetry event begins with a half-hour reading by Sagan who will read from her latest book, “What Solitude Sees in Me: Uncollected Poems 1976-2023,” published by Casa Urraca Press in Abiquiú. State Ethics Commission Files Lawsuit Against New Mexico Safety Over Profit

ALBUQUERQUE — The New Mexico State Ethics Commission has filed a civil enforcement action against New Mexico Safety Over Profit (“NMSOP”) for violations of the Lobbyist Regulation Act (“LRA”).
NMSOP, a domestic nonprofit organization, spent at least $56,000 in 2024 on advertising aimed at influencing legislation regarding medical malpractice reform, but refused to register its advertising campaign or disclose its sources of funding as required by New Mexico law. June Is Elder Abuse Awareness Month

SANTA FE — Throughout the month of June, the state is urging all New Mexicans to recognize the signs of elder abuse and take steps to prevent it.
“Our older adults deserve to live safely and with dignity and respect,” Emily Kaltenbach said, Cabinet Secretary for the Aging and Long-Term Services Department. “Preventing elder abuse is a shared responsibility; by staying informed and vigilant, we can safeguard our seniors from harm.”
Elder abuse can encompass physical, emotional and financial harm. Some common signs that may indicate someone is experiencing harm:

Los Alamos 100 Men Who Care selected Family Strengths Network (FSN) as the recipient of their June 2025 giving award. The group meets quarterly for a 30-minute social with simple food and drink, and to hear three pre-selected organizations make five-minute presentations. The group then votes on the organizations, and each member writes a check for $100 to the winner.

NMSP: Man Convicted Of 2023 First-Degree Murder In Artesia

ARTESIA – On Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023, the New Mexico State Police (NMSP) Investigations Bureau (IB) was requested by the Artesia Police Department (APD) to investigate an officer-involved shooting incident that occurred outside the Artesia Public Safety Complex at 3300 W. Main Street in Artesia.

LOIS LEEMAN July 8, 1933 – June 6, 2025
On Friday, June 6, 2025, Lois Leeman, loving wife and mother, passed away at the age of 91 in the beautiful mountains of Northern New Mexico.
Lois was born on July 8, 1933, in Knob Noster, MO. In 1953, she met and married her life partner and love of her life, Miles Leeman. Not long after that, they moved to Albuquerque, NM where they spent the remainder of their lives together. Lois and Miles raised two children, Denise and Eric, and helped in the raising of multiple grandchildren.
Lois loved Christmas, African Violets, cardinals, hummingbirds and carrot cake. Read More
