Festival of Trees Spreads Holiday Cheer
Auction items at the Festival of Trees held Saturday at the Betty Ehart Senior Center. The annual event included a craft fair with a variety of vendors and artisans, holiday medleys performed by local musicians Greg Schneider, Tom Oliphant, Winnie Berry and Frances Meier and photos with Santa. A highlight was the decorated trees and wreaths is a variety of themes. Proceeds from the Festival of Trees benefit the Los Alamos Retired and Senior Organization and Champions of Youth Ambitions. On Wednesday, Nov. 20, the Public Regulation Commission (PRC) adjusted a rule allowing companies to receive double, and even triple the credit of a “Renewable Energy Certificate” for using renewable energy resources such as solar, biomass, and geothermal energy.
Instead of a 1:1 ratio of one credit per one kilowatt-hour of renewable energy, companies will receive more certificates for using the same amount of renewable energy. As Read More

Winter weather has changed this year’s Hunger Walk plans. The route for the CROP Hunger Walk & Turkey Trot is much too icy and slippery to traverse Sunday, Nov. 24, so everyone is invited instead to come to theLos Alamos Middle School cafeteria for a celebration of anti-hunger efforts.
The gathering begins as early as 1:30 p.m. Sunday to collect all monetary and food donations, hand out gorgeous t-shirts designed by Helene Chavez, enjoy some light refreshments, and, at about 2:30 p.m., hold a random drawing for turkeys and pumpkin pies.

DPU Conducting Phone Survey on Gas Safety

Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities’ customers may receive an automated phone survey on natural gas safety in the next day or so.
The calls will be launched from the Texas area and will have a (210) area code. Survey duration is approximately five minutes long and assesses customers’ knowledge of gas safety issues.

James Whitney Godbolt, Sr. died in Loveland, Colo. on Oct. 17, 2013, four days before his 91st birthday. Jim was born on Oct. 21, 1922 in Red Bluff, Calif., the son of Dr. Fred B. and Martha (Tinker) Godbolt. He spent a good part of his youth hunting, fishing, swimming and boating with his mother and father on the Sacramento River and in the Sierra Nevada Mountains near Lassen Volcanic National Park. His father, a dentist in Red Bluff for over 50 years, was an avid fly fisherman and hunter, and Jim and his father had numerous memorable hunting

Gov. Susana Martinez has appointed Paul Andrus of Los Alamos to the Northern Regional Housing Authority Board of Commissioners.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Wednesday, during a Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources hearing, U.S. Senators Tom Udall, D-N.M., and Martin Heinrich, D-N.M., who serves on the committee, continued their effort to designate the 45,000-acre Columbine-Hondo area in Taos County as wilderness.
