Populations of otters throughout the world face increasing challenges as the quality and quantity of water resources decline. As conflicts over water use intensify, many otter species are being down-listed to Vulnerable or Endangered. With concerted conservation efforts, however, otter abundance is increasing in certain places, including New Mexico.

Handgun Missing From SOC’s Inventory
LAPD News:
Los Alamos Police Commander Preston Ballew has issued a press release related to a handgun missing from SOC’s inventory. SOC is the contracted physical security force for Los Alamos National Laboratory.
According to Ballew, an officer from his department took a report at approximately 6:35 p.m., Nov. 1 from SOC. The weapon was discovered missing during an inventory check earlier in the day, Ballew stated in the release. The Los Alamos Police Department is investigating this incident and working closely with LANL, DOE and SOC to locate and identify how this weapon became missing. Read More

Northern New Mexicans wanting to return to college for a certificate or two-year program are eligible for $1,000 awards from the Regional College/Returning Student program of the Los Alamos Employees’ Scholarship Fund.

Monday, Oct. 14, Los Alamos High School finished second place for the Director’s Cup. The New Mexico Activities Association awards a Director’s Cup to the top school and plaques to the second and third place winners.
Los Alamos finished behind Piedra Vista for the 2012-13 school year and Albuquerque Academy finished third.

Our daughter Hannah rides with the Therapeutic Riding group. This last Wednesday, Oct. 30, it was raining, sleeting and very windy. She does not like that kind of weather at all, yet she was still able to ride Dylan (Lisa Reader’s horse) for her lesson.
