Debate and Town Hall Meeting on UNM-LA Mil Levy Aug. 29
LWV News:
The League of Women Voters invites the public to attend a Los Alamos High School Hilltalker debate and Town Hall meeting 7-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29 at UNM-LA Lecture Hall in Building 2.
The LAHS Hilltalkers will debate the pros and cons of the mil levy election question followed by a presentation by Dr. Cindy Rooney, who recently was appointed as the new Dean of Instruction for UNM-LA, replacing Dr. Kate Massengale who recently retired.
The meeting will end with a town hall question and answer session, moderated by the League of Women Voters.

SANTA FE–New Mexico law enforcement agencies are participating in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2013 “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” nationwide drunk driving crackdown Aug. 16 to Sept. 2.
The campaign coincides with the September Labor Day holiday weekend.

The search for a new police chief moves forward as Police Chief Wayne Torpy officially retires Friday, Aug. 23.
The position posting closed July 26. The County received 40 applications for the position, of which 26 applicants met the minimum qualifications. County Administrator Harry Burgess will select up to five finalists. Sarabi is a two-year-old gray and white female that is very bonded to her friend Owl the cat.
She is a bit more outgoing than Owl, has very soft fur and hopes to find a new home with her buddy Owl.
Both Sarabi and Owl and have been trained to use a scratching post rather than furniture.
