Services for Stephen “Steve” Davidson Stoddard will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 30 at Trinity-on-the-Hill Episcopal Church, 3900 Trinity Dr., in Los Alamos.

A live broadcast of the services will be available for those who may prefer to watch from home.

PEEC is offering Hiking Los Alamos 101. The class will meet 6-8 p.m. Mondays June 3-24.

This first session will take place in the PEEC classroom, where expert hiker Craig Martin will go over safety and comfort on the trail. He also will teach map-reading skills. After that, the group will meet at various trails for hikes.

Martin and others will be hike leaders, with interpreters from PEEC for hikes and a “last in line” person from the County Recreation Department.

Los Alamos Man Charged with Aerosol Abuse to Face Judge June 17

LAPD News:

The Los Alamos Police Department has released the booking photo for Matthew Weinman of Los Alamos, charged with aggravated DUI and glue or aerosol abuse or possession.

Several citizens spotted Weinman Sunday afternoon, driving his pickup in an unsafe manner, swerving on Los Alamos streets some five minutes before veering onto the sidewalk along Diamond Drive.

According to police, the 22-year-old drove approximately 100 feet before crashing through a fence and careening more than 50 feet into Pueblo Canyon behind the Los Alamos Baptist Church.

Pajarito Astronomers Hold Dark Night June 1

PA News:

The Pajarito Astronomers will hold a County-sponsored Dark Night starting at 8:15  p.m. (sunset) Saturday, June 1 at Spirio Soccer Field, Overlook Park in White Rock.

Weather permitting, the public is invited to come out, wander among the telescopes and star gaze.

The planets Mercury, Venus, Jupiter and Saturn will be visible. There will be a tour of the spring and summer constellations, and there will be telescope views of double stars, star clusters, nebulae and galaxies.

Summer Sports Opps Benefit Chamisa School

SPORTS News:

Coach Justin Black will host summer opportunities for sports June 10-14 and June 17-21.

Each session is $60 per week. The morning session for grades 4-6 will run 8-10 a.m. and the session for grades 1-3 will run 10 a.m.-noon.

The sessions include; dodge ball, speed stack, golf, DDR, Xbox Kinect and more.

Basketball Basic Skills Camp is June 10-14 and June 17-21. The class runs 1.5  hours per day, is $50 per week and is geared to grades 3-5, grades 6-8 or high school students.
