The nice thing about being out-of-doors is that the unexpected can be seen. A group of students were exploring a stream in the Valles Caldera during a Nature Odyssey program for example.
One student spotted a blue colored rock and waded into the stream to pick it up. Surprise! The rock began to move away from the student.
On closer observation, we realized the rock was actually a crayfish. It was able to escape in spite of several students attempting to catch it.

Local developer Stan Primak issued a public apology to his wife and to the Los Alamos community regarding a domestic dispute with his wife Friday night that resulted in his arrest and charge of aggravated battery on a household member.
Primak told the Los Alamos Daily Post this afternoon that in looking back at last night and the fight he had with his wife at their home after dinner, “It just all seems so surreal.”

Local Developer Charged in Domestic Dispute

Longtime Los Alamos resident Stan Primak was arrested Friday, Jan. 4, at his home in the 1300 block of 44th Street following a domestic dispute with his wife.
According to the criminal complaint, police charged Primak with one count of aggravated battery against a household member.
The statement of probable cause indicates that a couple who were visiting on the other side of the Primak’s duplex were having dinner at the Primak’s home when there was an argument and Stan Primak became upset.

Following an extended stay in the hospital beginning in November, Los Alamos Police Chief Wayne Torpy surprised officers and staff when he arrived unannounced Wednesday at the police station.

Pongo is a 5-year-old male Pekinese mix that has had a rough time.
This little guy had a skin condition, which the shelter has been treating.
He is much better now and is up front at the Shelter with the other dogs.
Pongo is a friendly fellow that loves children and does well with other dogs. He also is housebroken and loves to go for walks.

Community Invited to LAHS Open House and Tea

Los Alamos residents are invited to attend an Open House to tour the new construction at Los Alamos High School from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13.
The theme is a tea to see the project supported by the 2009 bond and learn more about the projects proposed for the 2013 bond.

Underground Interference Causes Power Outage

Officials at the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities reported that power was interrupted to about 12 homes in the Big Rock Loop area of North Mesa beginning at approximately 10 p.m. Wednesday due to underground line interference.
Underground main secondary lines faulted affecting a transformer and its power flow to the homes.
DPU’s on-call electric line men worked to restore power to half of the homes by 1:30 a.m. and repair work continued through the morning and the remaining homes had power by 12:45 p.m. Thursday. Read More
