Winter Art Classes Begin Jan. 20

Registration is underway for the 2013 Winter Art Classes at Karen Wray Fine Art Gallery and Studio.

Letter to the Editor: Research Reveals More Names For LAHS Memorial Garden Plaques

As many in the community know, the Los Alamos High School Memorial Garden was dedicated Dec. 20 in honor of students who lost their lives while enrolled at the high school. 

A temporary visual display of plaques was posted on the flagstone centerpiece located in the middle of the garden, around which leaders of the school district, community and the high school gathered to make brief remarks.  

Permanent plaques have been ordered to replace the temporary ones and will be professionally installed when weather permits.

The League of Women Voters of Los Alamos will hold a forum on the school bond election from 7-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7 in the Los Alamos High School Speech Theater.

Hazardous Fuels Treatment in Forest Begins Jan. 8

The Santa Fe National Forest Fire Management plans a 20-acre hazardous fuels treatment on the Forest for January and February.

Santa Fe Watershed, Espanola Ranger District:

  • Approximately 20 acres of piles are to be treated at any point in time in the Santa Fe Watershed from Tuesday, Jan. 8 through the end of February, if conditions are favorable;
  • The pile burn location is approximately six miles east of Santa Fe, one mile east of McClure Reservoir;

Chocolate Lab Found Wandering Near LANL Checkpoint

A friendly chocolate Lab was found Dec. 23 wandering near the Los Alamos National Laboratory checkpoint on West Jemez Road.

The dog was transported to the Los Alamos County Animal Shelter where it remains while a search for the owners is underway.
