The location has changed for the poinsettia pick-up from the student Europe 2013 fundraiser. Poinsettias can be picked up at First Baptist Church until noon today, Dec. 1, instead of Crossroads Bible Church. Potential Hazards Lurk in Las Conchas Burn Area

The Santa Fe National Forest reminds the public that certain areas of the Las Conchas Fire area are open, however, some areas remain closed due to safety hazardous.
Standing burnt trees that could fall on vehicles pose a significant risk to anyone driving on roads that have not been cleared of these hazards.
Vehicle camping is not permitted off designated open roads.

Mo is a very soft 3-year-old female cat surrendered for adoption with her feline friend Ralphie.
Neither cat cares for dogs or boisterous children. Mo and Ralphie are now circulating in the cat room and enjoy the attention of volunteers.
The Los Alamos Animal Shelter, 226 East Road, 505-662-8179, has a large selection of on-site pets available for adoption.
Additional pets are living off-campus in foster homes until someone adopts them.

Los Alamos author T. Jackson King has a new novel out with the recent publication of “Star Vigilante,” hard science fiction action-adventure that features an interstellar vigilante hired to save a human colony world from an alien strip mining operation.

LANL Director Addresses Protective Force Terminations

Five protective force firing range personnel at Los Alamos National Laboratory were terminated earlier this month for inappropriate behavior while on duty.
These individuals worked for SOC (Securing Our Country), a full-service security management company under contract to protect the Laboratory.
SOC is owned by Day & Zimmerman, a 110-year-old company headquartered in Philadelphia, Pa.
SOC’s mission is to provide security services for individuals, domestic facilities, nuclear power plants and military bases

(Jay) Rockefeller IV Thursday commended the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for sending warning letters to 18 sports equipment manufacturers for the way they market their products’ ability to reduce the risk of concussions and for reaching a settlement with Brain-Pad, a mouth guard manufacturer.

Scott Bulgrin, president of the New Mexico Herpetological Society, will give a presentation on New Mexico Reptiles and Amphibians.
He will also have a few friends with him, including toads, turtles, lizards and snakes.

Much like any individual with a natural talent, Angie Charlton exercised her skills as an entrepreneur at an early age.
Charlton recalled when she was in fourth grade she saw a green-and-white two-wheel bicycle in a local store.
Wanting that bike badly, Charlton said she asked her father to get it for her but her dad said no.
If she wanted that bike, she would have to get a job and earn the money to pay for it.
“He put me to the challenge,” she said.
