Community Broadband Survey Begins Tuesday
COUNTY News:
Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 18 and running approximately two weeks, residents in Los Alamos County may be receiving a phone call asking for feedback on the Community Broadband Network project; a “last-mile” fiber network that will provide open and advanced broadband communications access to all Los Alamos County citizens, businesses and institutions.

The public is invited to attend a meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20 in Council Chambers, 475 20th St. to review the 30 percent design plans with Parks Manager Dick McIntyre and consultant Sites Southwest LLC.
Public comment will be accepted during this meeting.
The improvements to Ashley Pond Park are slated for construction beginning February 2013. Design work will wrap up this winter, with a second public meeting at 90 percent design set for mid-November.

Luján Announces $1.2 Million Grant for LANL to Improve Energy Efficiency of Vehicles
U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico’s Third District announced Tuesday that Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is receiving a $1.2 million grant through the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy’s Vehicles Technology program.
The program is investing in three new projects that focus on increasing the efficiency of engines and powertrain systems for future highway transportation vehicles.
The federal government will contribute $1.2 million to the project, while the private sector will invest $300,000.
