Los Alamos County is seeking community input on a proposed Single-Use Plastic Carryout Bag Ordinance currently under consideration by the Environmental Sustainability Board (ESB).
Community members can submit their input in person at the July 16 ESB meeting, or via email. The ordinance is intended to reduce litter, decrease waste sent for disposal, encourage reusable alternatives, and support broader sustainability efforts within the community.

SANTA FE — The Santa Fe Striders are proud to announce the 4th Annual Running Festival offering 5K and 10K races as well as 5 free kids’ races on Saturday, July 18, 2026. This year’s event invites runners of all ages to enjoy scenic views of the Jemez and Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
The 5K and 10K races begin at 8 a.m. at the Municipal Recreation Sports Complex, located at 205 Caja Del Rio Road. Both courses utilize the dirt trails surrounding the complex.

Atomic City Transit will provide free shuttle service for the Los Alamos County 4th of July Spectacular event at Overlook Park in White Rock this coming Saturday starting at 3 p.m.
Continuous shuttle service will be provided to the event from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. from the Lemon Lot (Diamond Drive & Canyon Road in Los Alamos), the White Rock Visitor Center (115 NM-4), and Piñon Elementary parking lot (90 Grand Canyon Drive in White Rock). Service will pause from 9–9:30 p.m. and begin again at 9:35 p.m. following the drone show, with the last bus leaving Overlook Park at 10:30 p.m.

ALBUQUERQUE — An Albuquerque man pleaded guilty to federal charges for aiming a laser pointer at a Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office helicopter and striking the cockpit over a dozen times.
According to public court documents, on October 7, 2025, Jorge Pinon Armendariz, 48, aimed a green laser pointer at the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office Metro 1 helicopter while it was flying over Albuquerque. Armendariz struck the aircraft multiple times from two separate locations, including multiple strikes to the pilot’s eyes.

Businesses located in the 505 Oppenheimer Suite and the 505 Apartments will be without power for three hours on the evening of July 6, 2026, as electric distribution crews replace a switch and a junction box.
