U.S. Forest Service To Propose First National Policy For Recreational Climbing On Public Lands

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Forest Service (USFS) will publish a proposed climbing directive in the Federal Register and initiate a 30-day public comment period.
This proposal establishes the agency’s first national direction for managing recreational climbing opportunities on national forests and grasslands that will include guidance for the use and maintenance of fixed anchors and equipment.

Smoke Visible From Fire West Of Española

The Rio Fire, a lightning-strike fire that was first detected Tuesday evening, has burned about 5-10 acres in a previously burned area on the Santa Fe National Forest.
Smoke will be visible as the fire is burning in a remote area that is difficult to access.
There is no threat to Los Alamos from this fire.

An Albuquerque, New Mexico man is in custody on federal charges for allegedly damaging religious property during back-to-back attacks at two local Jewish facilities.
According to court documents, on June 2, Rex Crofton, 25, targeted two Jewish community facilities in Albuquerque, New Mexico, during a series of motivated attacks.
