County Issues Community Update as LANL Enters Stage III Fire Restrictions

COUNTY News Alert:

The Los Alamos County Fire Department (LAFD) would like to ask the public for their continued support and assistance during Extreme Fire Danger.

The Los Alamos National Laboratory properties have entered Stage III Fire Restrictions effective July 3 and the LAFD supports their actions.

Therefore, the Los Alamos Fire Department has implemented the attached restrictions to all County owned or forested areas within Los Alamos County effective at 8 a.m. today, Tuesday July 3.

LASO, LANL Increase Fire Restrictions

The National Nuclear Security Administration’s Los Alamos Site Office (LASO) has upgraded fire restrictions on Department of Energy property to prohibit all outside recreational and off-road driving activities.

The upgrade to Stage III fire restrictions coincides with that of Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Both organizations imposed Stage II fire restrictions last week, and are now increasing their postures to Stage III.

Fire Department Asks Residents for Help

LAFD News:

With the current Fire Danger at EXTREME, and the anticipation of the fire danger level elevating to Stage 3 in the coming days, the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) is asking for the community’s help.

 

LAFD asks people to refrain from using fireworks, campfires or bbq’s on public land. LAFD also asks people to smoking only inside a vehicle or building during these extremely dry conditions, especially during the annual Fourth of July celebration.

One Year Later: Udall to Tour Las Conchas & Wallow Fire Sites

SOCORRO – This week, U.S. Sen. Tom Udall will visit Catron County and Santa Clara Pueblo to examine the destructive long-term effects of last year’s Las Conchasand Wallow fires and their implications for the current record-breaking wildfire season.

Udall will also visit the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (JVLA).

Today, July 2, Udall will travel to the JVLA radio telescope facility near Magdalena.

Udall will tour the site with association directors and scientists and travel up into the interior of an antenna.

Neither arrests nor charges indicate a conviction, and neither means that a person is guilty of the charges filed against them.

June 21 at 10:24 a.m. / Police charged Charles Pacheco, 56, of Los Alamos with fraudulent use of credit cards in the 300 block of Aragon and issued him a summons to appear in court.
