Pastor Raul Granillo: Not My Church

By Pastor Raul Granillo
Los Alamos

For most of my life, I thought that the most important activity for a Christian was to attend church or mass on Sundays. I’m not sure if I was just ignorant of what everyone else knew, or if this was the common mentality. To be honest, I kind of thought that going to church was both the beginning and end of being a Christian.

I’m afraid that, even if we don’t admit it, for too many Christians, attending service on Sunday allows us to feel as if we have attained the highest achievement possible in our lives. Maybe so many only go occasionally so that it can mean more when Read More

Pastor Raul Granillo: Getting Eaten By Zombies

By PASTOR RAUL GRANILLO
Los Alamos

The way of a fool seems right to him, but a wise man listens to advice. Proverbs 12:15 (NIV)

Every parent who has more than one child and a video game console has heard phrases like, “Turn around and push X,” or “You’re going the wrong way, the zombies are going to eat you!” Don’t forget the infamous, “Here, let me do it for you!”

It’s funny (or not), but as I listened to my oldest son get frustrated at my youngest daughter, I couldn’t help but reminisce about my brothers and me playing Contra and doing the same thing. Oh, the fights my mamma had to break up. I’m not sure Read More

Pastor Raul: Mac And Cheese Theology

By Pastor Raul Granillo
Los Alamos

I have always been a fan of fresh meat. There is just something amazing about opening a package of 2” thick tenderloins from a steer that I knew had been spoiled on grass.

After having four kids, my wife and I decided that not only was fresh meat a healthier choice, but it was also a much more affordable one. What we learned, however, was that young children do not typically appreciate a good steak as much as we do. I was mortified to find out that my babies were more content with mac and cheese than a rib-eye! What to do?

I know that my children’s tastes

Wording on the bags is a quote from St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, which states, “The Divine Heart of Jesus is an ocean full of all good Read More

Pastor Granillo: Uncommon Peace

By Pastor Raul Granillo
Los Alamos

“It is hard for you to kick against the goads.” (Acts 26:14 NIV)

I woke up Friday morning to find my 7-year- old little girl curled up next to me. I looked at the clock and thought, “I really need to start the day,” but I couldn’t bring myself to do anything but lay beside this sweet little girl.

She looked so peaceful with her head on my arm holding my hand. I laid there, next to her, and enjoyed the sensation of absolute peace for another hour before I was rudely disturbed by the alarm clock. Let the chaos begin!

Everyone,

Pastor Granillo: The Twelve Days Of Christmas

By Pastor Raul Granillo
Los Alamos

It should be of no surprise that the “true love” we have is our Creator who “so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him” (John 3:16-17).

There is no concrete evidence that Biblical symbolism was the intention of the writer of this song, but it does follow the 12 days of Christmas that are celebrated until the Day of Kings on January 6th, and it does allow us to the opportunity Read More

Staff Report

The eight-day Jewish celebration known as Hanukkah or Chanukah commemorates the rededication during the second century B.C. of the Second Temple in Jerusalem, where according to legend Jews had risen up against their Greek-Syrian oppressors in the Maccabean Revolt.

Hanukkah, which means “dedication” in Hebrew, begins on the 25th of Kislev on the Hebrew calendar and usually falls in November or December. Often called the Festival of Lights, the holiday is celebrated with the lighting of the menorah, traditional foods, games and gifts.

Pastor Raul Granillo: Undeserved Joy

By PASTOR RAUL GRANILLO
Los Alamos

When God raised up his servant, he sent him first to you to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways. Acts 3:26

There have been times in my life when I felt as if some of the things that I had done were so horrible that even God could not forgive me. I’m sure I’m not the only person who has felt this way.

I’m sure of this because I have heard others express the same sentiment—that some actions even God cannot forgive. While it is true that we live in a world that generally believes some things are not only unforgiveable, but should be unforgivable, Read More
