Pastor Granillo: Do We Love?

Pastor Raul Granillo
Los Alamos

“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love” (1 Corinthians 13:13 NIV).

The idea of love is about as vague today as it was when Paul wrote this. For some, it is the most powerful emotion; for others it is a source of vulnerability that is destined to hurt.

There are some who think that love is all we need to bring this world together; and there are some who think that love is a once in a lifetime thing that people need to watch for so that they do not miss their opportunity at a happily-ever-after life. We talk a lot about love in our lives, Read More

SENATE News:

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senators Bob Dole and Tom Daschle, co-chairs of the Caring Institute, have announced the 2015 Caring Award honorees.

The Caring Institute was founded in 1985 by Val J. Halamandaris after a meeting with Mother Teresa, who told him there was a poverty of the spirit in the developed world that was much worse than the poverty of the body seen in the developing world.

When she directed him to do something about it, he founded an awards program that identifies those who give back to society

Pastor Granillo: Constant Change

By Pastor RAUL GRANILLO
Los Alamos

Schoolwork has changed drastically since I was a kid. I realized this a few years ago when my oldest daughter started school, but it was only a little while back that I considered how much it had changed even between my time and my parents’ time.

I remember telling my mom about the new Apple IIe’s at our elementary school and how amazed she was at the idea of computers in public schools. Things had certainly changed since she was a child decades before.

We have all heard, many times, that the only constant is change. Peter wrote—almost 2,000 years ago—that, “[God’s] Read More

Pastor Granillo: Life Imitating God

By Pastor RAUL GRANILLO
Los Alamos

“Life imitates art far more than art imitates life.” –Oscar Wilde

I am a Gen-Xer. I was part of that group that grew up on hairbands, Nike Pumps, Goonies, and MTV. What I remember most about my youth is so desperately trying to stay in touch with the pop-culture. Fashions and slangs seemed to change more often than my shoe size did; and surviving Jr. High and High School meant never missing the newest fad. I had to really be careful which “artist” I imitated. In hindsight, I made a good choice in jamming to Metallica rather than to The New Kids on the Block.

Pastor Granillo: …With Liberty And Justice For All

By Pastor Raul Granillo

We have rules in our home; I dare say most families do. Our children know that there are rules for using the computer, for watching TV, for how they speak to each other, for how they treat each other’s property, and for just about everything relational we can think of.

These rules are designed to keep the peace, teach respect, create a safe environment, and provide many other skills that will benefit our children through their lives.

Rules and laws are a part of life, but to what end? In our world we find that there are many rules and laws that we must follow under the threat Read More

Pastor Granillo: …Indivisible…

By Pastor Raul Granillo
Los Alamos

Paul wrote to the churches, “It was he [Jesus] who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers” (Ephesians 4:11).

When reading this passage, it shouldn’t take long to realize that every one of these positions is for the sake of serving others through teaching, equipping, or mentoring.

In fact, Paul makes this clear to the readers by adding that the purpose of these positions are, “to prepare God’s people for works of service so that the body of Christ may be built up” (Ephesians 4:12). The body of Read More
