Fr. Glenn: Discerning The Right And The Good

By Fr. Glenn Jones:

Saw an interesting story the other day in which the very well-known actor Kevin Bacon (Footloose, Apollo 13, A Few Good Men, Taking Chance, to name a few of his movies) went out amongst us hoi polloi and found that life without the privileges of fame just ain’t quite as easy. This isn’t to denigrate Kevin Bacon, who IS a great actor, but rather makes one reflect upon why so many people look to celebrities for life’s advice when they are often so insulated from the lives of the vast majority of common people.

But such stories and considerations DO elicit the thoughtful question: What/who Read More

Faithful Christians claim to live by the tenets of Jesus, especially as they are outlined in his Sermon on the Mount. This sermon, especially as found in the Gospel of Matthew, chapters 5-7, clearly expounds on Jesus’ concept of the life of faith. Honest Christians will tell you, though, that it is not always easy to live according to Jesus’ teachings.

For example, Read More

“Raku” is a variation of a Japanese ceramic firing technique that consists of preheating ceramic pots, firing them quickly to glaze maturity, and then removing them from the kiln and placing them in a post-fire reduction vessel. Now, granted, Read More

Fr. Glenn: Little One, Arise

By Fr. Glenn Jones:

We are often amazed (and no less often humbled) by people who are willing to give of themselves to others, whether in material support or, often more impressively, of their very valuable time. And it can seem that those who are busiest are the ones most willing to give, much like the poor often support charities and their churches more generously income percentage-wise than those who are more comfortably well off.

But really … what is of more worth than giving someone in real need a hand up? Are such persons not the most cherished in our memories when we have been the one needing support, Read More

Fr. Glenn: The Gift Of Fatherhood

By Fr. Glenn Jones:

Well, it’s mid-June, so it must be Fathers’ Day! A most happy and blessed Dads’ day to all your fathers out there, for being a father is honor, responsibility and privilege—indeed, very likely a man’s greatest responsibility when he has children. So cherish the gift that fatherhood is! … knowing that your love and care for your children is to reflect the love and care of God the Eternal Father for all.

For if a man fails to protect and provide for his little ones (other than in circumstances beyond his control—illness and the like), many will think him not much of a man at all Read More
