Fr. Glenn: The Elusive Obvious
One of the common and perennial philosophical ponderings throughout the ages has been: what is the goal of our lives? What “target” are all our actions directed toward? But it doesn’t take very long to come to the conclusion: We seek happiness in all of our actions.
“Now, just a minute, Padre; you sure about that? What about going into the terror of a battlefield, or someone sacrificing his life for another, or this or that? Do you think the druggies on the street in winter are happy?”
But if you think about it, the premise holds. The soldier may value fighting alongside his brothers Read More

“I LOVE this church!” a newcomer once told me. She was so enthusiastic, and went on and on about how great she thought our church was. I have to admit that, while it was very gratifying to hear that kind of praise, I secretly cringed inside. I knew that sooner or later, we would disappoint her. And the more excited she was, Read More
Fr. Glenn: ‘Give. Us. FREE!!’
Considering the effects of art upon the human spirit, movies are often underrated as an art form. For instance, many of us likely remember various movie moments that are etched in our memories or moved us to the depths of our emotional core.
One of the most powerful and memorable moments I can remember is in the movie “Amistad”, a film based on the true story concerning events surrounding the Spanish slave ship La Amistad and its “cargo” of captured Africans, and subsequent legals battles concerning whether if, and by whom, the Africans were “owned”. Fr. Glenn: When Giving Harms
Well, our young people go back to school this week.
Just remember, young ones, what it says in the book of Sirach … verbalizing the sentiment of all who love and care for you … wisdom gained from many years of life’s experience which you as of yet lack but will come through the bumps and bruises you’ll inevitably experience:
“My [child], from your youth choose instruction, and until you are old you will keep finding wisdom… For in her service you will toil a little while, and soon you will eat of her produce. She seems very harsh to the uninstructed; a weakling will not remain with her… Read More

Fr. Glenn: Walking…Alone?
Most of us know persons who tend to be Lone Rangers—eschewing gatherings, avoiding much society with others, etc. (yeah, yeah, my peeps … guilty as charged). Some call it being an introvert, or omega male, or less charitably, anti-social. More often it’s just asocial rather than anti-social.
Flying solo relieves from constant expectations and judgment, lets you do your own thing, read more often, allow for the coveted sole control of the remote and thermostat, etc. Decades ago (has it been that long?!) it also meant uninterrupted use of the family computer, but with everyone Read More
