Fr. Glenn: The Best Presents
By Fr. Glenn Jones
Hmmm … in the news this weekend is that Jeff and MacKenzie Bezos’ divorce is finalized. Since MacKenzie will no doubt get a large chunk of the Bezos fortune, that’ll likely drop ol’ Jeff down the “richest men” category a few notches. But … I doubt that he’ll have trouble finding a date nonetheless. MacKenzie, either. Too bad, though; it’s always a sadness to see a couple lose the love with which they began.
Such news highlights the truth of the old adage: “The best things in life are free.” Jeff and MacKenzie’s earlier mutual love cost nothing, and yet one might speculate that Read More

Fr. Glenn: Our Feast Day
By Fr. Glenn Jones:
(Sigh)….57 years old and still reading the comics. But … it brings a little levity early in the day, and helps set a good mood. Maybe all of us sneak a peek at our old favorites now and again. I mean … how can you not like “Dilbert”?! And then there’s the golden oldies like Dennis the Menace, Peanuts, and even ol’ Garfield is getting a little long in the tooth. I can’t help but marvel at times at the cleverness of some of the writers. They are pretty good observers of the human scene.
A good one on Saturday with “Curtis”, centering on a couple of young brothers. The younger, frustrated that Read More

Fr. Glenn: ‘…a Most Desirable Friend…’
By Fr. Glenn Jones
While reading a text from one of the saints this weekend, a certain phrase rather leapt from the page: “…you are a most desirable friend”—the saint (Paulinus of Nola) thanking the recipient for a great favor done for a kinsman.
Would that we all comport ourselves in relationships so as to deserve such tribute! But … as we all have no doubt experienced—and might be ashamed to admit of ourselves—we often fall far short of such admiration … likely being viewed by—or, to our discredit, viewing—others as vehicles to selfish gain.
One of the most poignant compliments in all scriptures Read More

Fr. Glenn: Father’s Day
By Fr. Glenn Jones
A very happy and joy-filled and blessed Father’s Day to all you dads out there! (Is it “Fathers”, “Father’s”, or “Fathers’”? Ah well … no matter.) What an honor you have to be entrusted with the care and teaching of God’s precious little ones—your children … those little images of God as we all are, but they with that innocence that we adults have most often lost but are called by Christ to emulate: “Whoever humbles himself like this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me…” (Matthew 18:4-5)
To emulate the Read More

By Fr. Glenn Jones:
Today (Sunday, June 9) we come to one of most important Christian days of the year and that which closes out the Easter season: Pentecost—commemorating an event described in the Acts of the Apostles chapter 2—an annual commemoration of what Christians hold to be the coming of the Holy Spirit of God upon Jesus’ apostles. At this event the apostles were imbued with wisdom, fortitude and courage with which they went out and taught of Jesus and His Word.
Pentecost is often called the “birthday” of the Christian Church, for the apostles quit hiding in fear and went forth to fulfill the Read More
