ALBUQUERQUE — After 12 years as Executive Director of the New Mexico Activities Association, Sally Marquez announced she has decided to retire.

“It has been my honor to serve the schools and students of New Mexico, but it is time to step away,” Marquez said.

Marquez leaves a remarkable legacy of leadership, and commitment to student-athletes across the state. Aurea Rojas was the top predictor in the Atomic City Road Runner’s final weekly pace race of the 2024 season held Tuesday on the Canyon Rim Trail. She was 1 second off her predicted time.

Other accurate predictors were:

  • Jan Velechovsky with a 2 second differential;
  • Lynn Bjorklund recording a 4 second difference as well as the first female finisher on the 3 mile course at 24:10;
  • Roxana Candia at 13 seconds off; and
  • Zach Medin with a 27 second differential.

The annual Los Alamos Ski Swap, hosted by the Los Alamos Ski Racing Club (LASRC), will take place at the Los Alamos Middle School on Saturday, Oct. 19 with important times to note:

  • 8-11 a.m. Equipment for public resale drop off.
  • 1-4 p.m. Public Sales open. Come and purchase your new or swapped gear.
  • Sunday, Oct. 20. 12-3 p.m. Pick-up for unsold equipment and pick up payment for sold equipment
  • Special pre-sale access time for those who sign up and volunteer for the swap.

Pajarito Pickleball Club board members recently collaborated with Los Alamos County to add pickleball to the County’s Open Gym program. This free opportunity is supported by the club and is open to the public. Open Gym Pickleball is available 6-8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Auxiliary Gym at Los Alamos High School.
