Allan Lockridge Named Boys Cross Country Coach of the Year

Allan Lockridge, a long time resident of Los Alamos, who taught at Pojoaque Public Schools and has continued to coach Cross Country long past his retirement has been named Boys Cross Country Coach of the Year for New Mexico. 

With a nickname like “The Legend,” Coach Lockridge has been inspiring his cross country team for many years and through many individual and team state titles. At the state meet in 2000 when Coach Lockridge’s house burned in the Cerro Grande Fire, he pushed through for his team, exclaiming “we have races to win!”

YMCA Offers Endurance Training For Cyclists

YMCA News:

The Family YMCA is offering an Endurance Training for Cyclists Class. Each class will have a two-hour riding component and a one-half hour of core conditioning. A heart rate monitor is required the first day of class. In addition, the following topics will be discussed: 

  • Proper bike fit
  • Clothing and equipment
  • Nutrition and hydration
  • Aches and pains-preventing them and what to do if you have them
  • Weekly training recommendations and how to design your own training plan

The National Federation of High Schools Coaches Association has announced that Rob and Kathy Hipwood have been selected to receive the 2013 Coach of the Year Award at the state level in the sport of Girls Cross Country.

Pajarito Mountain Ski Patrol Member Garners National Recognition

Los Alamos High School senior Nathan Phillips is the runner up for Outstanding Young Adult Patroller in the nation. He received a Silver Merit Star and was recognized in the recent issue of the National Ski Patrol magazine.

Phillips has been a member of the Pajarito Mountain Ski Patrol (PMSP) for four years, helping provide safe snow sport recreation on the mountain. He and the rest of the local Young Adult Ski Patrol are attending the Rocky Mountain Division Young Adult seminar at Winterpark, Colo., in March.

Triatomics Host Round Robin Event

TRIATOMICS News:

Community members are invited to join the Triatomics Multisport Club for a “Round Robin” event 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16 in the large side room at the Los Alamos Aquatic Center. This event is intended for beginner to intermediate triathletes, but all are welcomed and encouraged to join.
